MIXTAPE CLUB.
才能あふれる友人Brian Thomasは(Reed Pages マガジンの創刊号のアートディレクションを手伝ってくれて)、最近新しい音楽プロジェクトを始めました−The Mixtape Club。ブッククラブのようなもの。マジックナンバーは10。10週間に一回、毎回違う10人から10曲の入った10本のミックステープ。10本中の6本はエディターや継続して参加する人たちで、4人のゲストが毎週参加します。(それぞれのDJは自分のミックステープカバーをデザインします。）
The Mixtape Clubは2部構成になります：「ゲスト」＆「メンバー」アクセス。「ゲスト」は一週間に1つのミックスを出すことが出来て、ダウンロードやセレクションの権利はありません。「メンバー」（過去に参加した事がある人は誰でも)はアーカイブされたミックスにアクセスする事とダウンロードできる権利があります。
始動するにあたって、僕は半引退状態から復帰して、ゲストとして参加しています。サイトをチェックして、聴いてみてください。とてもいい、オーガニックなプロジェクトです。これが僕の「Stay This Way」ミックスのトラックリストです。

実際10曲を決めるのはとても大変でした。どうやって絞り込んでいくか？選んだ10曲はそれぞれ独立したもので、大きなものを意味するわけではないので。ただ一緒に聴くと良く聞こえる10曲を組み合わせたくなかった（クラブだったらそうしているかも）。「こんにちは、僕の名前はJeffです。これが僕を一生代表する10曲です。」と言っているようなものです。それはけっこうなプレッシャー！10曲が完全に自分を表現できるわけがない。だから僕はその時のカンで決めました。それぞれの曲はそれぞれの理由で違う意味を持ちます。あまり分析しないように。リストに意味や理由などを求めないでください。ただ、それだけ。来週、僕の10曲を聴けばまったく違うものになるでしょう。だから、皮肉をこめたタイトル。（追伸：カバーに使った写真は僕がStaple x Lomo Colorsplash Cameraで撮ったものです。ニューアーク空港に向かうヘリコプターの中から撮りました。フォトショップで修正はまったくしていません。これが、Lomoの美しさです。）
My very talented friend Brian Thomas (who helped with the Art Direction for the first issue of Reed Pages Magazine) just recently started a new musical project—The Mixtape Club. It’s kinda like a book club.
The magic number is 10. 10 mixtapes with 10 songs from 10 different people every 10 weeks.
6 of the 10 will be editors/continuing contributors with 4 new guest contributors every week. (Each DJ also designs their own mixtape cover.)
The Mixtape Club will have two main parts: “guest” & “member” access. “Guests” are allowed to stream one mix per week only, no download/selection privileges. “Members” (anyone who has ever contributed) will have access to archived mixes as well as download privileges.
For the launch, I came out of semi-retirement and am one of the guest contributors. Check out the site and have a listen. Nice, organic fun project. Here’s the tracklist for my “Stay This Way” mix:

It was actually really hard to decide what my 10 songs were going to be. How to narrow it all down? I didn’t want to just string 10 songs that would sound good together (as you might do in a nightclub), because these 10 songs exist on their and not in the scope of something bigger. It’s kind of like saying “Hi, my name is Jeff, and these 10 songs represent me. Forever.” That’s a lot of pressure! How can 10 songs represent you completely? So I just went with gut feeling at that particular moment. Different pieces mean different things for different reasons. Don’t try to analyze it. Don’t just try to find rhyme or reason to the list. It just is. You ask me next week for my list of 10 and it will be completely different. Hence, the irony of the title.
(PS: The photo used for the cover was taken by me using a Staple x Lomo Colorsplash Camera. I shot it flying in a helicopter on the way to Newark Airport. No Photoshop work done on it at all. The beauty of Lomo.)
