PSFK TOKYO.

PSFKにいる友人達が来週、東京で「Good Ideas Salon」を主催します。「Good Ideas Salons」は進歩的な考えを持った人たちが集まり、世の中を良くするため、より良い仕事場やより良い遊び、より良い世界を作る為にアイディアを出し合うところです。Good Ideas Salonsには、水平思考、それぞれの知識を共有したい願い、そして同じような考えを持った人たちとの関係をより強くし、新しい出会いを求める人々が色々な業種から集まります。

１０月２０日、PSFKとNissanは東京でGood Ideas Salonを開催します。Piers Fawkes(PSFK)は「ピュアリビング」について著名なゲストの方々からなる２つのパネルのモデレーターをします。彼らはそれぞれの観点からピュアリビングについての考えやそれが現在どのようにデザイン、テクノロジー、アーバンリビング、交通などに明示されているかを話し合います。

My friends over at PSFK will be hosting a “Good Ideas Salon” in Tokyo next week. “Good Ideas Salons” are where forward-thinkers come together to share ideas to make things better, whether that’s better work, better play or a better world. Drawing from a range of industries, Good Ideas Salons bring together people with a focus on lateral thinking, the desire to showcase their knowledge, and the wish to renew existing relationships with likeminded peers as well as forge new ones.

On October 20, PSFK and Nissan presents Good Ideas Salon in Tokyo. Piers Fawkes (PSFK) will moderate a conversation on “Pure Living” with two panels of distinguished guests. They’ll explore perspectives on pure living and how it is currently manifesting itself in design, technology, urban living, and transportation.

STPL FALL 2009.

The STPL Fall 2009 cut + sew collection is now available at Reed Space and other fine retailers. As most of you know, each season, we focus on one aspect the academic life. For Fall ’09, the theme is “COMMUNITY WORKS”. The theme derived from my observation that as unemployment started going up lately, many people, of all ages, were heading back to the volunteer workforce. A silver-lining in these economic times…so I wanted to really focus on it. If you check out the entire collection, you’ll see that all the “models” are actual real-deal volunteers. We asked them a couple of questions about why they do what they do. The stories are as interesting as the clothes. Thanks to God’s Love We Deliver, Housing Works, National Multiple Sclerosis Society. And big thanks to Ana Leiva for the photos and production work.

STPL Fall 2009年カットソーコレクションがReed Spaceとその他の優良店舗で入手可能になりました。ご存知かと思いますが、毎シーズン、僕達は常に一つの事に重点を置いています。それは、人生で学ぶ事。2009年秋のテーマは「COMMUNITY WORKS (社会奉仕)」です。このテーマは、最近失業率が上がる中、年齢を問わずたくさんの人々が、再びボランティア活動に励んでいるのを頻繁に目にするようになった事から始まりました。この経済状況の中に見える明るい希望．．．だからこそ、これに重点をおきたかったのです。コレクションを全て見ると、「モデル」さんたちは、実際のボランティアであることが分かります。それぞれになぜ活動をしているか質問をしてみました。彼らのストーリーはコレクションの服と同じくらい興味深いです。God’s Love We Deliver、Housing Works、National Multiple Sclerosis Societyに感謝です。そして、写真と制作に関わってくれたAna Leivaにもありがとう。

MIXTAPE CLUB.

才能あふれる友人Brian Thomasは(Reed Pages マガジンの創刊号のアートディレクションを手伝ってくれて)、最近新しい音楽プロジェクトを始めました−The Mixtape Club。ブッククラブのようなもの。マジックナンバーは10。10週間に一回、毎回違う10人から10曲の入った10本のミックステープ。10本中の6本はエディターや継続して参加する人たちで、4人のゲストが毎週参加します。(それぞれのDJは自分のミックステープカバーをデザインします。）
The Mixtape Clubは2部構成になります：「ゲスト」＆「メンバー」アクセス。「ゲスト」は一週間に1つのミックスを出すことが出来て、ダウンロードやセレクションの権利はありません。「メンバー」（過去に参加した事がある人は誰でも)はアーカイブされたミックスにアクセスする事とダウンロードできる権利があります。
始動するにあたって、僕は半引退状態から復帰して、ゲストとして参加しています。サイトをチェックして、聴いてみてください。とてもいい、オーガニックなプロジェクトです。これが僕の「Stay This Way」ミックスのトラックリストです。

実際10曲を決めるのはとても大変でした。どうやって絞り込んでいくか？選んだ10曲はそれぞれ独立したもので、大きなものを意味するわけではないので。ただ一緒に聴くと良く聞こえる10曲を組み合わせたくなかった（クラブだったらそうしているかも）。「こんにちは、僕の名前はJeffです。これが僕を一生代表する10曲です。」と言っているようなものです。それはけっこうなプレッシャー！10曲が完全に自分を表現できるわけがない。だから僕はその時のカンで決めました。それぞれの曲はそれぞれの理由で違う意味を持ちます。あまり分析しないように。リストに意味や理由などを求めないでください。ただ、それだけ。来週、僕の10曲を聴けばまったく違うものになるでしょう。だから、皮肉をこめたタイトル。（追伸：カバーに使った写真は僕がStaple x Lomo Colorsplash Cameraで撮ったものです。ニューアーク空港に向かうヘリコプターの中から撮りました。フォトショップで修正はまったくしていません。これが、Lomoの美しさです。）

My very talented friend Brian Thomas (who helped with the Art Direction for the first issue of Reed Pages Magazine) just recently started a new musical project—The Mixtape Club. It’s kinda like a book club.
The magic number is 10. 10 mixtapes with 10 songs from 10 different people every 10 weeks.
6 of the 10 will be editors/continuing contributors with 4 new guest contributors every week. (Each DJ also designs their own mixtape cover.)
The Mixtape Club will have two main parts: “guest” & “member” access. “Guests” are allowed to stream one mix per week only, no download/selection privileges. “Members” (anyone who has ever contributed) will have access to archived mixes as well as download privileges.
For the launch, I came out of semi-retirement and am one of the guest contributors. Check out the site and have a listen. Nice, organic fun project. Here’s the tracklist for my “Stay This Way” mix:

It was actually really hard to decide what my 10 songs were going to be. How to narrow it all down? I didn’t want to just string 10 songs that would sound good together (as you might do in a nightclub), because these 10 songs exist on their and not in the scope of something bigger. It’s kind of like saying “Hi, my name is Jeff, and these 10 songs represent me. Forever.” That’s a lot of pressure! How can 10 songs represent you completely? So I just went with gut feeling at that particular moment. Different pieces mean different things for different reasons. Don’t try to analyze it. Don’t just try to find rhyme or reason to the list. It just is. You ask me next week for my list of 10 and it will be completely different. Hence, the irony of the title.
(PS: The photo used for the cover was taken by me using a Staple x Lomo Colorsplash Camera. I shot it flying in a helicopter on the way to Newark Airport. No Photoshop work done on it at all. The beauty of Lomo.)
